Most towers here still run on LP gas rather than piped supply, and the depot on Road 11 is the one every building caretaker will point you to. Bring the empty cylinder yourself and you'll pay the standard rate; have it collected and delivered and expect a small pickup fee on top. Turnaround is same-day if you arrive before 5pm — after that, it becomes a next-morning job.

Local Tip

Keep a spare cylinder if you can. Fridays and the first week of the month are the depot's busiest, with waits stretching past an hour.

2. Which lake path is safe after dark

Gulshan Lake Park walkway, behind Road 90

The stretch behind Road 90 is well-lit, well-used by joggers and families until around 10pm, and rarely feels empty even on weeknights. Past the Road 103 bend, the lighting thins out and the path is better avoided solo after dusk. Weekend mornings are the best time to use the full loop — food carts set up near the Road 84 entrance from about 7am.

Local Tip

After 10pm, stick to the main road rather than the lakeside path, even if it adds a few minutes to your walk home.

3. The building generators that never fail

Newer towers along Road 90 and Road 103

Load-shedding hits Gulshan less often than most of the city, but when it does, the difference between buildings built before and after roughly 2015 is stark. Newer towers on Road 90 and Road 103 run full-building generators that kick in within seconds and cover lifts, water pumps and common-area lighting. Older blocks nearer Gulshan 2 often only back up the lifts, leaving units to run on IPS for everything else.

Local Tip

Ask specifically what the generator covers before signing a lease — "backup power" doesn't always mean the whole flat.

4. Best hours for the DCC market run

Gulshan DCC Market, Road 46

The market is at its calmest right after opening, from about 7:30 to 9am, when the fish and vegetable sections are freshest and stall owners have time to talk you through what's in season. By midday on Fridays it's shoulder to shoulder. If mornings aren't possible, the 6pm restock brings in a second wave of fresh produce with a much shorter queue than the weekend crowds.

Local Tip

The upstairs butchers will vacuum-pack and label cuts for the freezer at no extra charge — worth it if you're stocking up for the week.

5. What to expect at the embassy zone checkpoints

Security checkpoints around the diplomatic zone are more visible at night and during high-alert periods, with vehicles occasionally asked to stop for a quick look. Carrying a photo ID smooths this along, especially if you're a regular visitor to the area rather than a resident. None of it is intended to slow down day-to-day movement, but budgeting an extra five minutes after dark is realistic.

Local Tip

Ride-share drivers unfamiliar with the checkpoint routine sometimes take a longer way around — flag the direct route in the app notes if you're in a hurry.
