Forest permit
You can't simply turn up and wander into the Sundarbans — entry needs a forest permit and an armed forest guard, which is why almost everyone travels on an organised launch.
Most packages start from Khulna or Mongla and include all meals, a cabin, the permit and small-boat trips up the narrower creeks at dawn, when you're most likely to see deer, monkeys and crocodiles. Tiger sightings are rare; tracks are not.
A three-night trip reaches further into the forest, towards Kotka and Kochikhali, and is worth the extra day if you can spare it.
